I am a full-time fighter, which means 3 to four times a day focusing on Jits, boxing and everything else an MMA athlete needs. I do a lot of conditioning which includes gym and swimming.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU START MMA?
I had my first pro fight in April 2008. I’ve always loved competition. I started with rugby but wasn’t big enough to make it, so I turned to something else I was good at – fighting. I used to get into brawls in clubs so I decided to make something constructive out of it.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT MMA?
The constant evolution of the sport. MMA never gets old and you have to keep up or fall behind. I love learning new techniques and applying them in the cage.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR STRENGTHS TO BE?
I see myself as an all-round freestyle fighter. I have strong ground and pound, good boxing and KO power in both arms.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOT COMPETING OR TRAINING?
Mainly relax and recover. I’ll go to the movies or hang out at beach every few weeks but that’s about it.
Fighting Brian Ebersole. He’s now in the UFC, so going 3 rounds with a guy of that calibre is one of my proudest achievements. I’ve also had a number of good KO victories, particularly against Ronald Dlamini and Brian Thomas. I am also proud of my first fight at EFC AFRICA, a win against Steven Momah at EFC 09.
